What is a rapid test?

The rapid test is a test that can show whether someone can infect another person with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). For this rapid test, we use a RIVM-validated antigen test. This type of test reacts to the presence of proteins of the virus in the nasal and throat mucus. These proteins are called antigens. The advantage is that you get the result much quicker than with a PCR test, which is why this antigen test is also called a rapid test.

How does a rapid test work?

The rapid test reacts to the presence of proteins of the virus in the nasal and throat mucus. As these proteins are called antigens, this test is oficially called an antigen test. The rapid test is taken with a throat and nose swab. The rapid tests that we use are RIVM-approved and from validated brands Abbott and Roche.

For whom?

The rapid test is, apart from people with Covid-19 symptoms, also particularly suitable for people who have no symptoms. You can also be infectious for others without complaints! However, it is also possible that you are already infected with Covid-19 (and therefore could have a positive PCR test), but do not (yet) spread many virus particles (for example because the virus development is in a very early stage), which might lead to a negative test result with a rapid test. No PCR or rapid test is 100% reliable and that is why the rapid test is said to have a specificity of 98%, in other words: you are 98% sure that you are not infected with Covid-19 if you get a negative test result. If you quickly need a test result, for example to feel more reassured because someone close to you has tested positive or because you have an event, meeting or visit planned, the rapid test is suitable. With a rapid test you will receive the test result and your certificate within 1 hour. Always follow the guidelines of the government and RIVM, even if you have a negative test result. As part of the measures against Covid-19, many countries currently have entry restrictions whereby you must show a negative PCR test and a negative antigen test. You can book a certificate for this when you book a test with us. The entry restrictions can vary from country to country. Therefore, always keep an eye on the website of the national government:
